August 1st Derwent Island Open day: Keswick 10:15am to 2:30pm. Adults £15. The visit lasts around 2 hours and is guided upon a rafted canoe. A guide will show you the Pocklington’s Georgian house and gardens.


August 2nd Cartmel Show: The most traditional country show set in South Lakeland. Location: Cartmel racecourse.


August 11th Appleby Show: With a wide variety of classes for horses, sheep, cattle, poultry, vintage machinery, dog, produce, handicrafts and horticultural exhibits the Appleby show is the one to go to. There are many stands and food halls.


August 12th and 13th Ambleside’s 75th summer flower produce and craft show: Saturday 12th – 10:30am to 5pm, Sunday 13th 10am to 4pm.


August 12th and 13th The Lowther Show: Lowther Castle has beautiful grounds and during the Lowther show there are horse driving trails, food and beer festivals and the Lowther Hound Show.


August 20th Lakeland Country Fair: Location: Coniston, a traditional Cumbrian show where Herdwick sheep are on display and there will be demonstrations of hand-clipping. There will also be Dog shows and events, fell pony displays will be there as well alongside fell foxhounds and beagles.


August 25th, 26th, 27th Solfest: Location: Aspatria, Solfest is a festival for everyone, with live music all day and various classes and things to do such as yoga or interactive site art.
