The Mountain Goat

Nanny Brow is delighted to work in partnership with Mountain Goat and to recommend their tours and transport to all our guests.
The Mountain Goat is a company whose roots are dug deep in the Lake District area. Established in 1972, the Mountain Goat is the original Lake District mini-bus company. The name Mountain Goat originated from customers commenting on how the bus climbed the Lakeland fells like a ‘Mountain Goat’. Over the years the Mountain Goat has become a popular attraction for people visiting the Lake District as a great way of exploring the numerus fells and lakes and even has a ‘claim to fame’ on appearing on the 12 week ITV series ‘The Lakes’ which has created remarkable interest and admiration for the company.
The Mountain Goat offer several tours around the Lake District area. One of there most popular tours is The Ten Lakes Spectacular. The Ten Lakes Spectacular is a full day tour where you will visit the ten lakes: Bassenthwaite, Brothers Water, Buttermere, Crummock Water, Derwentwater, Grasmere, Ullswater, Rydal Water, Thirlmere and Windermere. On the tour the passengers travel through the traditional Lakeland Villages and beautiful valleys that surround the 10 lakes. They go over the famous Kirkstone and Honister passes with plenty of stops to take photographs and admire the most amazing views.
If you are a Peter Rabbit fan, then the Beatrix Potter’s Favorite Countryside Tour is the one for you! On this half day tour, you will explore within the central Lake District, finding Herdwick sheep, dry stone walls and mountain views. You will visit Hawkshead, a fantastic small village where Wordsworth once studied, Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top House & Gardens and cruise on Lake Windermere.
The Mountain Goat High Adventure tour is a full day tour and is not one for the faint hearted. During this tour you will travel over Hardknott and Wrynose passes (The steepest in England), travel through the spectacular Langdales valley. You will also ride on a heritage railway and be alook upon England’s largest mountain Scarfell Pike.
The Six Lakes in the morning is a great tour if you are an early riser and want to make the most of a day. This half day tour starts with the dramatic drive over the Kirkstone Pass before dropping down to Ullswater. You can stretch your legs at Castlerigg Stone Circle which is 1000 years older than Stonehenge. The tour then returns alongside Thirlmere and Grasmere before traveling back to Windermere.
The Heart of Lakes tour is a half day tour, touring the central lakes. During the tour you will enjoy a variety of scenery including Consiton Water, The Langdale Valley, Tarn House and explore the medieval village of Hawkshead.
The Mountain Goat also offer private tours of the Lake District for up to 16 people. Tours include there Ten Lakes Specatluar, The High Adventure and Six Lakes or Heart of the Lakes. The advantage of a private tour is that you can create your own itinerary and customize your tours with Mountain Goat.
We have worked with closely with our friends at the Mountain Goat since we opened. We are now one of their recommended places to stay on their guided tours thus cementing our partnership with this local company to improve the experience of our guests at Nanny Brow with a truly local tour company. So without hesitation Nanny Brow highly recommends using the Mountain Goat services be it tours or private pickups or airport transport due to their reliable, exiting and great way to see some of the best bits the Lake District has to offer and value for money. Give them a go you won’t be disappointed.
