Drunken Duck

Situated approx. 15 minutes’ drive from us at Barngate Nr Ambleside The Drunken Duck is the iconic gasto pub. Originally a farmhouse, the cream-rendered building has been a pub for most of its 300-plus years. The current owners took over in the late 1970s turning it into one of the area’s first gastropubs, later with a micro-brewery. But it retains a sense of a country inn mixed with a quirky contemporary style: faded rugs on oak floors, pale-washed beams hung with hops, tan-leather tub chairs and carved-wood settles, wood-burning stoves and a slate-topped bar, and every wall crammed with prints, cartoons and period photographs. According to The Telegraph Travel Destinations review.
There are two cosy dining areas, or you can eat in the bar; always a convivial place, particularly when the locals drop in around 5pm. Lunches are served from 12md till 2,30 pm and they don’t take reservations for lunch on the other hand dinner is from 5.30-9pm and booking well ahead is recommended. They also serve Sunday lunch (Roast) from 12-4pm

Top tips
Great for lunch after walking
Plenty of outdoor seating for dry warm days
Evening meals booking essential I would recommend 3-4 weeks ahead of time.
Car parking available, but it does get busy.
