We certainly think so, as do hundreds of our delighted guests. A quick read of our Trip Advisor page will show you just how well we look after our guests when they come and stay with us. With review titles like “Fabulous place to stay” “Lovely place” and “A rare find” our guests can vouch for the experience we aim to give anyone who visits us.
So what makes the best B&B in the Lake District?
Situated high above the river Brathay Nanny Brow has commanding views up the Langdale Valley. The house perches on the edge of five acres of private woodlands and landscaped gardens, outside which you will find semi-ancient woodland, low lying fells and the River Brathay.
Many of our guests have said how they love taking a stroll through the gardens or simply sitting on the sun terrace at the front of the house and looking out over the gardens and on to the Langdale Valley beyond, whatever the season.
If you want to get a bit more energetic, then from the formal gardens you can enter our private woodlands with steep undulating paths, becks and bridges. From here and indeed the rear of the main house, we have direct access onto the fell side offering good walks over Nanny Brow to Lily Tarn, Todd Crag and Ivy Crag, each with commanding vistas of the surrounding area.
We pride ourselves the service we offer to all of our guests. We have a small team dedicated to making your stay with us relaxing, memorable and above all enjoyable. Our staff are very experienced and knowledgeable and are able to offer advice and recommendations to help you get the most out of your stay in the Lake District.
Our bedrooms are pure indulgence! Each room is beautifully decorated with a different twist, and all enjoy the following…
Our guest lounge is open all day and with large comfortable sofas offers you a lovely place to relax. The lounge also has great views of the River Brathay and Lakeland Fells beyond.
As well as the large sofas, the lounge is furnished with period arm chairs and a lovely selection of tables and chests complement the original oak panelling, lead windows and stunning Arts and Crafts plasterwork which adorn the ceiling and fireplace.
Our award-winning breakfasts are a special treat using the finest ingredients the region and season have to offer. We are proud to source most of what we serve within 20 miles of Ambleside. Please click on the link for our supplier list.
We stayed in the Brathay suite as a treat for my birthday – lovely big room (with the biggest en suite we’ve ever had and delightful under floor heating which, given the freezing temperatures over the weekend, was fab). Best of all though was the view from all windows – mountains, trees, a meandering stream and even a deer grazing on the lawn – truly amazing. One of the best properties we’ve stayed in and well worth a visit.
It really is summed up by the words of one of our recent guests, posted on Trip Advisor:
I think everyone here has used up all the superlatives there are about Nanny Brow and it’s fantastic location
