My first choice has to be The Terrace at Brantwood sitting on their large terrace overlooking Coniston Water and The Old Man of Coniston is sheer heaven. If we time it right we also see The Steam Yacht Gondola as she majestically glides down the lake. The home baked venison sausage rolls are yummy as are all the cakes, our favourite being the Bakewell slice and rocky-road. All washed down with delicious coffee and soya hot chocolate what more could one want.

While I love a view the atmosphere and food more than makes up for the lack of this at Home Ground in Windermere. I popped into here on Wednesday with a girlfriend and her hubby for an impromptu lunch. We all chose the sour dough toast with poached eggs and smashed avocado which was delicious and surprisingly filling so much so I had to forgo the scones which are some of the best I have tasted. During the week they are traditional fruit scones and at weekends the fruit is swapped for cranberries, almonds, white chocolate combinations yum yum. The dark oat milk hot chocolate is divine and is a great compliment to naughty sweet cakes.

Last week Milly, Olivia and I had an off-site team meeting at Chester’s by the river. It’s lovely sitting on their decked area listening to the river Brathay babbling by as it makes its way towards Lake Windermere. Although it is vegetarian they have so many sweet and savoury options, it is a destination café as there are many walks to and from Chester’s by the River, including a walk from Nanny Brow which leads you to this beautiful café. They also have a shop and a takeaway in case you don’t have room from eating pizzas and fully loaded salads but you still want to take cake home!
